Hi all,

I'm tempted to get a D80 and was wondering if anyone knew if I would be able to barter in those well known high street retailers for cameras.

I'd rather buy somewhere that I can go in and complain than online for this, not sure why, I just like the idea of having someone to shout at if it breaks I think :p

Anyone got a ball park figure for body only? I was thinking about the £500 mark.

£500 is about right for the body. However, I would still seriously consider on-line as you are more likely to get a better overall bargain. Not sure that the main high street retailers like a competitor are able to 'haggle' over prices. I think you might get a better result in a smaller shop however, they are more likely to charge you a bit more in the first place. Unless of course you have some kit to exchange. In this case you are more likely to be able to strike a deal. I tried this route but a competitor no longer do part exchange. I eventially managed to trade in my old Eos 5, 28-105mm, 100-300mm and EZ-540 flashgun for £180 against a Sigma 70mm macro lens with a competitor in London.

I got a D80 for the wife last year on an online website (body + lens = £730). At the time it was a very good deal.

Am I allowed to say which one or is it against forum policy?

Just got a quote from "Every photographers favourite Fife-based supplier" for a D80 body at £449... only £40 more than a HK-based auction seller...

Well this is a case when the english second hand bodies are selling cheaper than the HK ones... some of them by quite a way. Seems the d80's are dropping in price very quickly
