DX sensor, fixed 18/2.8 lens, compact body, £1000. Could this mean that Ricoh's GRD V will follow in the same suit? Looks perfect for street work. It's quite pricey at £1000 (it'll be competing with Fuji's X100s (35/2 lens), and XE-1/used X-Pro 1's even if they're larger) but it looks like the premium compact segment of the 90's is being revived, which is awesome!

Yup, the lens is definitely slow by modern standards. Maybe it's a very sharp, well corrected lens with no distortion or CA much like Leica's 28/2.8. Personally I'd go with the Fuji too now that Adobe have solved their RAW conversion issues, plus the X100s has that awesome viewfinder. However the pocketability of this new Nikon isn't something to be balked at, some of my best street shots have been from small cameras that I could just slip into a jacket pocket.

Looks interesting, but I'd prefer the 35/2 as well purely for the focal length. The X100 second price is dropping quite a lot, I might get another one once they get below £300 (some have been going for £350). I sold mine just at the right time!

Actually a refurb went for £325... The release of the X100s has really hit the prices. I've got to admit though, the improved AF is something that I'd like on the X100s. The X100 wasn't the snappiest but you could work with it.

The X100 is a 23 f/2.0, 35mm equivalent with the crop, I'm pretty sure? Seems a bit odd to report one as its true focal length of 18mm and one as a 35mm equivalent? In any case, this would make the Nikon equivalent to 28mm, which is a noticeable difference from 35mm equivalent, but not as dramatic as 18mm and 35mm suggest.

28mm I think is a bit on the wide side for a single fixed lens 35mm gives you a nice balance wide enough to fit in a scene but long enough to still take a decent picture of a person. I would have expected a faster lens.

It is nice to see more and more competition in this market segment, with a bit of luck it will drive prices down and make these cameras even more attractive.

Yeah I know it's 28mm, that's too wide for me. I don't like people photography beyond 35mm.

Holy god that ad is terrible, particularly when he strokes the bottom of the lens eeewwwww!

Its cringe worthy.

As above I'd take the X100 over this.

Yeah it's not the same sort of camera as the X100 - I consider it a more palatable RX1 in terms of being about as small as the sensor format will allow.
