I'm looking for a decent GPS unit for my D7000. I travel a fair bit and would like to automatically geotag the photos in camera as I take them. I have looked at using android apps or gps loggers but would prefer an on camera solution.

The Nikon GP1 doesn't seem to have great reviews and at around £180 is a lot more than other 3rd party devices such as the Phottix Geo 1 (http://www.phottix.com/en/phottix-geo-one-gps-replace-nikon-gp-1.html)

The Phottix takes power from the camera though and I would prefer one that has it's own power source, though this isn't vital.

Has anyone tried a Nikon GPS adapter or can anyone recommend me a decent solution?

Thanks

I use the GeoTagPhotos app for iPhone which is a much cheaper option and works really well.

I did try a couple of similar android apps but wasn't too impressed. It didn't seem too accurate which is likely my phone's fault and they also severely drained my phone's battery.

Well my Solmeta Geotagger N3 arrived from Hong Kong today.

First impressions are very good. Locked on to GPS signal in about 25-30 seconds and accuracy seems within about 6 feet. I like the fact that if I go inside and signal is lost it still keeps track of last know position and tags photos accordingly. Battery drain seems minimal and overall I'm very impressed.

I can recommend it if anyone is looking for a Nikon GPS solution. A lot cheaper than the Nikon GP1 with better features, battery life and lock on times. Comes with a half decent remote shutter release too which is a bonus.
