Nikon lens advice

Hi,

I have a d90 with no lens, i am looking at a lens and just want to know which would be a good all rounder starter lens.

I'd prefer not to spends hundreds on it but an idea of lens progression would be much appreciated.

Mainly scenery and normal touristy type things to be honest. At some point i'd like to shoot star trails etc, but at the moment it will be just so i can get used to the camera.

I'll look at the 50mm f1.8 cheers!

Would that be a
Nikon 50mm F1.8D
or
50mm f/1.8G
