Purchased a new 200-500 Nikon lens 2 month ago to go on holiday with. After carrying the lens on a hot day I noticed the paint by the vr switch had dissolved. This is not wearing as the white came off on my finger. Any suggestions as what I should do, as this could affect the resale value.

That is what I thought, a bit bad though as the 16-35 that I was carrying by the lens most days was not affected at all. They must have changed the paint type to emulsion.

Lens is back, they did not cover the paint coming off, but Firmware updated and they checked focus shift deviation resolution recalibrated af and vr and it does seem a different lens. I need to do some better testing but on first impression it does seem sharper and faster focusing.

Yes but not on the day this happened as we were high up in many glacier, Will post some 100% crops at the weekend when I will have a chance to use the lens better

Sorry it has been a long time but I have only just had chance to use the lens.

Totally different lens, 320 iso wide open at 1/500 I have gone from very dissapointed to stunned. 100% crop.

I know someone at NPS they sorted it out. Stunned by the optical differences from the original condition. Shame as I carted it all around yellowstone and the rockies. Not one shot was as sharp as the one above.

Yes brand new from a UK retailer, Nikon would not touch it if was a gray import. They wanted the receipt to do the work under warranty.
