The 18-50MM is pretty pricey but its like the most pocketable digital compact for landscape made AFAIK.

An 18MM lens is unheard off in a compact. Even a Panasonic GM1 with a 9mm to 18mm lens is bulkier.

interesting stuff good to see this sector getting a bit of a shake up Sony have had it to themselves for too long!

More competition in the 1" sensor sector has to be a good thing. I hope it will ultimately drive down prices and eliminate the tiny sensors used in most compacts.

Pretty sure I will pick up the 18-50 model once stock is in, rices settle and no obvious flaw is found. I often go out with my D800 + 30mm /f4.0 PF + 1.4xTC, with my Olympus epm2 + 14-42mm in a pocket. The Nikon DL 18-50 would be perfect for a lot of my hiking, e.g. where I want to capture a landscape but don't want to swap lenses.

E.g, This kind of photo is nice to have for a memory but is not a portfolio piece so I accept he epm2 quality and keep my telephoto on in case a bear suddenly appears:

Balls. Now I have a load more reading to do before committing to buying an RX100

Are there any UK prices yet? I can see the US versions listed on the Nikon US site.

Also keen to find out more about video features. S-log2, XAVC encoding?

I wouldn't hold my breath for it to be sub £800 at launch as prices tend to follow pound for dollar from a US tag. The 18-50 sounds lovely, I love to shoot wide but if it's that price and with no viewfinder it will be a bitter sweet pill to swallow.

True didn't realise that and need to eat my hat about the sub £800... as just noticed UK camera company with *J* (I'm sure it's ok to mention them here they aren't competitors are they?) has it advertised the DL 18-50 for £679.00. £799 with the (horrible IMO) hot-shoe viewfinder.

The RX100 MK4 is at the £725 mark (I never thought it was worth it at that price).
The RX100 MK3 is £550 ish (got mine with a £50 Sony discount which was still a stretch but I love it).
MK1 £250 and MK2 £300ish.

Spoilt for choice which is great news going forward.
