My Nildram account was activated this morning.

Initial speed test said 5Mbps, and a few test Newsgroup downloads averaged 570k/s about an hour ago. Can't wait to try the off-peak speeds tonight!

Evolution shalln't be missed :p

hey dude, can you explain some of the issues you had with Evo, i've just getting it and lost 5 days because of sync probs. Now i'm running @ less than isdn speeds

That's the issue! Most are getting speeds like yours. Did you not do *any* research before signing up to someone who sounded too good to be true?

I would've been had you chosen Evolution DSL after every single person who joined them since MaxDSL launched at the beginning of April has gotten speeds below dial-up. :p

Eclipse Evolution is a good choice. Can't comment on why you've got problems though - most are fairly happy.

Suspect 99% of it is BT-related - issues with IPStream Max (sync loss certainly has nothing to do with the ISP).

in respect to other comments, eclipse have been hard on the heals of BT, obviously i'm back online but with a much throttled speed atm...i'm connected @ 3488kbs and getting 13k/sec downloads... but my upload is fine...448k

Sounds definitely BT related - you can try the BT Speedtester (see FAQ) to confirm it, if you like.

Just keep pestering Eclipse to chase BT. They should sort it (eventually!).

If there are any board members that are still evolutionDSL ......get out quick it looks like they are going down the pan

quoted from ADSL guide forums

Chris Wilkie (Director) has failed to come to any of the forums he is known to frequent to answer whats going on with the terrible service, apparently his mobile is turned off and its message box full. He has removed the link to Evolution from his personal website. He had traffic management equipment fitted while still advertising an unlimited service.

Poor speeds, generally 0.135mb to 0.3mb (BT speedtest 6.5mb and I was getting 6.5mb before migration) but the real problem is the connection will just stop for anything up for a minute. This means any streaming applications like games are impossible and in WoW all players are getting 1 to 4 seconds lag.

Statement made my Enta Admin that they are waiting to hear if Evol have gone into liquidation

im soooooooo glad i got my MAC code :p

Well I downloaded 10Gb last night in the off-peak hours using Nildram. Average speed was "only" 400k/s, but at around 1.5Gb an hour that's more than enough for my hard drive to cope with :p

The peak-time in the evening was very nippy, closer to 600k/s. Maybe all the heavy downloaders overnight slow things down?
Either way I think they have a nice balance. Fast speeds during the day when you need it, then reasonably fast overnight when things aren't quite so urgent!

£25 for effectively 6Mbit during the day, and unlimited 4Mbit overnight is pretty darned good in my opinion :D

interestingly my speed has been very stable (around 450KB/s) since they issued me my MAC code.

Getting hit by £300 per month per 1Mbps L2TP prices probably bit them just a bit :p
Last time I cared, they were whinging that Enta had stitched 'em up.

nildram

i aslo migrated from evolution to nildram - my new connection goes live tomorrow and i cant wait - the last 6 weeks with evolution as been heel on earth

A potential issue with any start-up ISP is that they make their plans on the basis of a national average spread of customer usage patterns and then act surprised when their advertising attracts a disproportionate number of heavy users.

They lack the large number of casual users it takes to support the heavy downloaders and the business model goes out the window.

Bottom line is that any new ISP has to be extremely careful with their advertising so they can build a sustainable mix of customers and while it is relatively easy to attract the heavy users it is much harder to attract sufficient light users to balance them.

I don't think they were a startup. ChrisW kept going on and on about how they'd been around for a few years - evidently 2Mb with Evo wasn't as appealing as unlimited 8Mb though, and the mass influx of heavy downloaders did render them stuffed, somewhat. ChrisW didn't appear to understand what was going on either - he kept saying 'bandwidth isn't a problem'. Enta's BT Centrals evidently never made an appearance in his thought process.
