Nildram/BT exchange congestion

I currently have a 2mb line from Nildram and from about the 3/1/06 I've had terrible download speeds. Speedtesting at ADSL guide revealed I was getting less that 512k service!

I rang Nildram and was told to use the BT speedtest which I did and the results were below BTs minimum (400k) on a couple of occasions. When I rang Nildram back I was told that BT are aware and to keep an eye out on the exchange congestion checker on the Nildram site. There was a date of about the 12/1 set for upgrading the exchange which vanished a couple of days before that date. The next time I checked the update had been bumped to the 20/1. Well that date has been and gone and I'm still no further forward.

I rang Nildram AGAIN to be told that I would need to use the BT speedtest at least 4 times tomorrow AGAIN. I have about 3 bad results (below 300k) which the BT speedtester has logged but apparently these need to be spread throughout the day (I just tested when the line was bad).

Has anyone else had dealings like this and am I entitled to financial compensation from Nildram or BT?

These problems have been dragging on for nearly a month and I don't see why I should be paying £25 when I haven't been receiving a quarter of the service.

Edit. I'm due 50GB a month and have a backlog (since I barely use 2GB) or about 100GB. I'm aiming to use all of this in a month so if you know of any big files I can DL let me know.

keep a record every day, do 4 tests 2 am 2 pm and log the results and then if they don't do anything you have comeback proving you had a poor quality service for the said amount of time, such time you should be compensated for. most likely in the form of a reduced rate, they don't like writing credit notes these people. If you can prove that your service was poor they should respond.

You're highly unlikely to be entitled for any compensation.
Simple answer's just keep turning out the speedtests.

Of course not.

You're not paying for a 1:1 contended leased line, you're paying for an up to 50:1 contention line - if you were getting less than this, then maybe you'd have cause to complain.

What exactly is the point of doing that? Downgrade to Broadband2Go if you only use 2GB a month
