Looks like the full sequel to the Nintendo DS has been announced, bit of a shock to get this announced before E3.

Only a handful of details though, it will be completely compatible with previous games from the DS, offer 3D effects without glasses and will be released before March 2011.

If the rumors are true this thing uses Tegra 2 as well this could be very interesting but I'm still a bit sceptical of the 3D effects.

By the looks of the article I suspect it'll be doing head tracking 3D (since it needs to keep track of the player), which from what I've seen works pretty well. Basically it removes the need for glasses and the performance hit from traditional stereoscopic 3D effects as it just shifts the perspective of the screen based on where the viewer is looking from, which gives a fairly good 3D image effect.

Is this just like the dsi and lite or does it have better hard ware ?

Much better hardware apparently with enough power as the Gamecube had (or so I have read).

Speculation is that it is using a Tegra chipset

I'm already skeptical that it can do 3D without glasses :p However, I'm sure we'll see more in e3 this year :)

I love the DS mainly because of the old JRPGs they put out for it: - Final Fantasy series / Dragon Quests / Chrono Trigger etc.
I don't think the Wii is great and not sure what to expect from the 3DS but Nintendo certainly didn't let me down with the original DS so I will trust them and pre-order this as soon as i can (probably more than once because you know they'll be out of stock everywhere on launch and I can make fortunes on that auction site;).

How would the case close? It would have to be alittle nub like the psp has. lol.

I'm sure you could fit an analogue stick in there, doesn't have to be mega tall, just needs to be able to have the 360 movement.

TBH i'd kill for a nub over a d-pad, especially for stuff like Mario 64 etc.

3D effects will be like those tvs without glasses, images beamed out at different angles, works on a small screen you're always going to be in front of.

Very exciting development and something I will be definitely keeping my eye on. As mentioned though I'm skeptical about the ability to show 3D effects without the need for glasses.
