Nintendo DS lite

You should buy one because she asked for one. I doubt she will be happy if you get her something else with the reasoning that a forum of people you don't know didn't rate it.

Also this should be in the console section.

hmmmmm
thats one way to look at it
the info i wanted concerned battery power and the like, and irrespective of whether she asked for one or not, if they are a load of crap, i would'nt be able to throw money away on it. the opinions of people on here usually are'nt wrong especially non fan boys
however i also wanted to know about the browser add on, i.e. will i be easily able to connect it to my rangemax wireless connection

Nintendo DS Lite

I wouldn't get it if i were you. The games aren't very good imo, but if she is into Nintendogs and kids games then its definitely an essential buy. The battery power is ok, nothing special, charge it up to full and you should get a reasonable amount of hours playing time. The graphics on most games are quite good and so is the gameplay, pick it up mate. :)

Yep i do, i meant pick it up for his daughter as she would proberbly like it if she was into those sort of games. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :p

The battery life is pretty decent - I used to play mine on night shift at work and I think it was the second 8 hour shift before it needed charged.

As far as the DS is concerned, the games make the console! There is now a huge back-catalogue and there are loads of GBA games (including all the original Mario Bros for the NES/SNES). There are some games which just take advantage of the power compared to the GBA and don't use the touch screen at all, and there are others which are very touch-screen based and a lot of fun.

It's definately a console aimed at a family market, as most of the games are easy to pick up and play. If you're not sure about getting one, then I'd recommend heading down to Game or similar and asking to see one in action. Even if you don't get to play much, you'll be able to see what it feels like and also have a look around at games.

If you do decide to get one, I'd recommend checking out the bundles available at Gamestation. I got mine there and paid £109.99 for a black console with any DS game in store (I picked Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time which is £29.99 everywhere).

I would defiantly recommend this over any other handheld system this Christmas. It has an excellent, wide range of games (particularly if you include all the GBA games which will work fine) at a great price. Battery life is improved on the lites and was never bad on the original ones to begin with.

The DS Lite is a top piece of kit and to be honest if you're looking for something handheld I wouldn't look at anything else.
It has it's own library of "unique" games - if you look at the DS Lite's main rival you'll see the majority of games available are simply PS2 ports - there is nothing new.
The DS Lite is amazing to look at, the screens are excellent.
Brilliant controls, excellent battery life etc.

I bought one in white for my wife for her birthday earlier this year (couldn't stand the finger prints on the black version) and she loves it.
I believe we're getting (already got?) the pink DS Lite in the UK as well now so that will make a perfect present.

I had the same experience with my girlfriend, got her the white one ()at her request) not long after they came out and I think she plays hers more than I play mine, lots of brain training and animal crossing. The pink one is out over here, I picked one up last weekend for aforementioned girlfriend (again at her request) and inherited her white one to replace my old fat one.

thanks for the info
has anyone used them for internet??

Dont think they fair too great for internet. Other than the multiplayer aspect. they arent too good for browsing...

however the games are excellent.

if you buy her one get the following...

Animal Crossing
Nintendogs
New Mario Brothers
Super Princess Peach

That would be a good start :)

I've given up trying to prise my girlfriends DS lite away from her.

When she first got it I could beat her at Bomberman with my eyes shut, after two months of intensive practice she wipes the floor with me everytime :o

New Super Mario Bros also sees a lot of action.

It has a wifi connection, and you can get Opera for it, so internet access is great. Also, another cool addition, a movie pack and a SD card. Can then copy films over to the SD card and play on the DS Lite.

Battery life is excellent, walks all over the PSP, and games are fun too.

Excellent present.

Web browser is pretty poor imo. The wi-fi connection itself is awesome, but the browser takes too long to get going to be really that useful. Guess it depends on the individual though. The games are awesome though.

I highly recommend the DS lite, I was a sceptic till the lite came out and i played a friends. + a pink one came out 2 weeks ago, ideal for a girl!

im assuming that you just need the DS and it has a wireless card built in?
what else would i need to buy to use the net i.e. browse

Well you'd need a wireless router in your house and also the DS Browser pack which is a cut down version of opera.
