How does the original Nintendo DS (not lite) differ to the lite?

I have the opportunity to get one (just with charger) for quite cheap. Do the games come on cartridges or can you play games from SD cards too?

Would i be able to play games such as donkey kong, contra and killer instinct?

Are games like mario world and mario kard on DS as good as on the snes?

I have an iphone 4s at the moment so could just get rip offs of nintendo gamems, however its cheap enough and fancy something new to play with.

Does the DS also run from batteries? Whats the life like and what battery type does it take

Thanks

Thats was just a review of some slating the DS normal. It didnt say anythig about the SD card slot, not on the DS lite as far as i understand. Nothing about battery use, nothing about it being backward compatible with Gameboy advanced...

I have a DS, DS Lite and a 3DS in the household. The screen brightness and size are the two biggest 'complaints' about the original DS. It still feels a very solid piece of kit and I find the battery life is very good still.

The DS Lite is a very good step up however and worth the pennies extra unless you're talking silly cheap for the original.

Its actually a DS lite (black, with charger)

It was cheap enough so bought it. Now to get a couple of games. Thinking mario kart and new mario bros.

The games are more expensive than the console!!

So many deals can be had either on websites or places like the members market!

Worth keeping your eyes open.

The DS Lite is an incredible piece of kit.

not sure yet, but for £20 i thought id take a punt. will get mario kart and mario world i think.

What good games can people recommend? Maybe something different like brain training, i know theres supposed to be loads of random games for the DS. I havent played anything on my PC for a while (at lears 2 months) maybe some different style games will keep me entertained / get me back into casual gaming

you will need to import this from Japan or buy it on e-bay but its great fun!
Same can be said for "jump ultimate stars" its like smash bro's on a handheld with anime characters instead of nintendo ones.

I got New Super Mario bros for £11 yesterday. Do you need an adapter to play the GBA games?

Is original Mario Kart available for GBA???

No, you just plug them into slot-2 at the front of the DS in between the volume slider and headphone jack, their will most probably be a piece of plastic in there that acts as a cover for the slot, you can just pull it out with your thumb.

Also as you seem quite new to the DS the battery life on them is great, on mid brightness you'll get about 8-10 hours, also you don't need to turn it off, just close the lid and the game will pause, the DS can last for days on standby.

Thanks lowrider. Do you know if Mario Kart original is available on GBA?

Kinda, the only Mario Kart game for the gba is 'Mario Kart: Super Circuit', it's a good game, although be prepared, the graphics are not brilliant by today's standards, anyway, you can unlock all the original cups and tracks from Super Mario Kart for the SNES in Super Circuit, they have been renamed the 'Extra Cups', they are unlockable by winning a gold trophy for the corresponding regular cup and then collecting 100 coins in the same cup.

No bothered about graphics, if its as good as snes its good enough

In Mario Kart DS, can the original trakcs be unlocked?

I cant find Donkey Kong Country either. Just some VS game, that looks terrible

Mariokart Ds has some snes, n64 and gamecube tracks, it's an excellent game worth getting. If you've never played GTA chinatown wars get it it's superb fun.
