right, i'm a couple of questions before i place my preorder if anyone will oblige?

firstly, will you need to buy a scart with one of these babies like every other console i've ever bought? i cant seem to find one...

secondly... if you want another controller, do you need a remote and a nunchuck? is that right?

and thirdly... is this console gonna look anywhere near as good as its 2 competitors considering its not HiDef?

cheers peeps :)

from what i know with the euro version of the wii, all this comes in the box:

- Wii Console (white)
- Wii Remote with strap
- Nunchuk
- Wii AC Adapter
- Wii Stereo AV Cable (the red white and yellow cables)
- Wii Stand
- Wii Stand Plate
- Wii Sensor Bar
- Sensor Bar Stand
- AA Battery
- Wii Sports game

i dont think you need the nunchuk, but some games like project hammer, red steel, legend of zelda, metroid prime 3 and that wii boxing game take advantage of it, so it would be worth getting anyway

so far, the in-game footage i've seen looks as good as the 360 games i've played. this is bearing in mind i'm not a big fan of the incredibly shiny, plasticine-esque graphics that the 360 seems to specialise in. graphics-wise, i'd say you'll be looking at a scale of between the Xbox and the 360, but closer to the 360...that's just based on what i've seen.

you only need a Wiimote to control games, but as Flubble said, some games take advantage of the Nunchuck. most importantly...Nintendo back-catalogue :D

sweeeeet :D i seriously can't wait... right now i'm too busy for playing games but i'll be damned if i aint gonna MAKE time come release date :D

so what about graphics? are we gonna be needing scart cables

My main concern is the lack of progressive support with pal games. As with the GC I wouldn't be suprised if many titles released in the eu only support 480i. It also seems likely that games downloaded from the virtual console will be 50hz in this region, borders and all. And let's face it, this is a Nintendo console, games will take longer to arrive in europe (if at all) and will cost more. It's already been confirmed that there will be less selection from the virtual console in europe.

I really want to pick up a pal wii, but all my Nintendo console buying experience over the years screams NO!

it would be wicked if they'd do a zelda pack like with the cube, i aint fussed with the sports thing and a specific "pack" like that is a bit more special :)

i think in fact they probably will, but just not for the release date :( - does anyone know for sure?

Do you mean RGB SCART or Composite SCART cables? As every console I have had from the PS2, Xbox, 360 have all had the SCART block with composite connection, so to suit the vast vast majority of owners TVs, and then buying an RGB SCART cable later for the best picture on a standard TV.

yeah thats what i mean... i have always purchased an RGB Scart cable in the past but cant see one available for the wii...

on a seperate note... i'm selling all my current kit... is it worth keeping either of my original GC controllers or my Wavebirds for use with the Wii or is that a complete waste of time? the only other thing i think i'll keep is Mario Kart just for old times sake :)

The Wii uses the same cabled for RGB out as the GC and N64 did..

And the Wii also uses the same Component Digital AV cable that the GC had.. so you might as well keep ** existing one if you want.

the wii has 4 ports for your GC controllers

also another question do you have to have a Wii retro controller to play the old skool games or can you use the nunchuck and remote

You can use the Nunchuk for NES games but all SNES and N64 games must be played using the retro controller.

check out gametrailers.com

they have a few new Wii in game footage in HD, looks surprisingly good acutally :)
but the Wii isn't HD capable is it

and with the controllers... yeah i know it supports the GC controllers but i'm just saying is it at all worth keeping them? i.e. do i need them if i wanna play gamecube games or can everything now be done with the remote and nunchuck?
