Hey, after some info for a friend with no computer (yes they still exist ^^), They are interested in buying a Nissan 180SX with a SR20DET engine and automatic transmisson, however they have no idea how much they are worth and as they are pretty rare over here I can't find any, the is this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-NISS...omobiles_UK&hash=item45fd24e304#ht_553wt_1308 but its a non turbo and has a weird front end conversion. Apart from that I can't find anything so have no clue what kind of price range these would go for.

So any ideas how much they go for with the spec stated? and secondly how tunable are they? I would expect that with the same engine as the S14 they should be able to make the same power with the same mods? or due to the rarity do they not have ECU chips available like the S13/S14 do?

Any help/advice appreciated, thank you.

I love the 240z, but that 180sx with the 240z front end looks ridiculous. According to google it was a mass manufactured kit. Not a couple of one off factory jobs. I would take the guys claim that it's a "special edition" with a pinch of salt. The only information I can find on "factory" conversions is the SilEighty. There's nothing on a special edition 180sx with a 240z front end.

Worth as much as an s14 if not more, definitely more if it's a Type-X. Engine is slightly different to the s14 one, known as straight-cam as it has a different non-VVT head with a straight cam cover. For whatever reason they sound a LOT better than the bent-cam engines.

Why does he want an automatic? Auto ones are going to be much cheaper than manual.

Thanks guys, I dunno Clarkey she just prefers autos, as much as an S14 if not more is pretty vague but im gonna guess more due to the rarity?, cars seem to be worth more in Japan than the UK and looking on some import sites the are cars matching the spec between £4k-£6k, still doesn't help that much though, I found this on PH which is would be prefect if unmodified (I know the body kit is stock) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3246061.htm albiet £7k, im guessing an auto like that would be.. what 5-6k?

That as far as I know is a factory fitted kit and limited edition model. Bit of an odd choice in engine and I personally don'y like the look of it (love both seperately!).

Also please don't end up spending £7k on a S13! Even at a £4k budget you really should be expecting an immaculate condition example.

Head over to SXOC and sign up to have a look at some examples in the classifieds section.

Would your friend consider the later S14/14a?

Why is it an odd choice of engine?

I had a quick look around the auctions and these cars are hard to come by in turbo/automatic form! I guess they must have gained some sort of uber status over there as the prices are as high as S15's.

S13's have rocketed in price since drifting became popular! Engine/gearbox combo seems to be irrelevant. The cars are getting ashes to pieces on daily basis so any car with a decent shell will fetch good money.

Got any info on that? I can't find anything. All I've been able to find is it was a third party conversion kit.

No but I did see it being discussed a while ago on SXOC.

@Clarkey: I think it's an odd choice of engine because the car was very likely a high-end product at the time and at a higher cost than the standard car, so why skimp on the engine when they already went one up and fit a SR20DE instead of a CA18 variant that you would expect!

Erm, the SR is standard in 180SX, from Jan 91 onwards anyway.

People swap from CA and KA engines to SR in 200SX/240SX because it's a better engine.
