Nissan cube...cool or uncool?

The styling that you see here on the Cube actually came out in Japan nearly two years ago. It was designed to provide the maximum amount of interior room in a relatively small package. How small? Well, in all its major dimensions, the Cube is quite a bit smaller than the Scion Xb.
Despite its boxy shape, the Cube has some very interesting styling features. For example, it uses asymmetrical c-pillars from side to side. And the sideways opening rear door also has an asymmetrical design.
Inside it’s equipped with comfortable, well-upholstered seats, that have wide arm rests to convey the sense of sitting on a sofa. And there’s a slightly longer version of the car, called the Cubic, which actually offers three rows of seats. The Cubic also has a slightly different front grille.
This car is powered by a 1.4 liter engine coupled to a CVT transmission. It produces 88 horsepower, but with the Cube only weighing a little over 2100 pounds it’s not as slow as it might sound, but it’s certainly not quick.
There is also a four-wheel-drive option, which uses an electric motor connected to the rear wheels. This eliminates the need for a drive shaft running down the middle of the vehicle, and eliminates any powertrain drag unless it’s engaged.
Nissan is keeping a keen eye on the Honda Element and the Scion Xb and would love to bring the Cube to the American market. Nissan says it would price it as a more premium car than the Scion. But since it’s already two years into its design cycle, Nissan will wait until the next version of the Cube comes out before bringing it over here, probably sometime in 2007.

I don't really like it, just a Nissan Micra dressed up as a van with queer windows.

How on earth would you open the boot door in a cramped car park?!

Was this car not on top gear or fith gear in the past years?

Looks about a cool as a bread van :D

Still, all credit to Nissan for trying something different. I'd just wish they'd update or bring out a new version of Figaro for the 21st century.....

Paint it red and its postman pats van!!

Seriously its no looker obviously but i can see it being quite practical for certain people and likely very econimical and low insurance. The looks arent THAT bad from the back actually the more i look at it.

i'm pretty sure i've seen a few around in the uk - they became a huge fad in japan a few years ago with loads of modding parts to make them look even squarer :D

Hideous IMHO, don't see any appeal of it at all - the interior looks horribly dated, and the exterior, well it looks like a toy car, and thats the best thing I can say about it. Similar to the Toyota Scion you can get in the states, or a Daihatsu Move!

Japanese inventiveness.

Tax system is Japan is based on car size, so Nissan made a car to the exact measurements of the lowest class tax bracket, most space for your money.

In Japan, awsome idea, in the UK I can't see it doing aswell.

Horsepower 85.00 HP (62.6 KW) @ 6000.00 RPM
Torque 88.00 Ft-Lbs (119.3 NM) @ 4000.00 RPM

How did they manage to get it dead on the thousand? :p
