Came across this and feel quite sad.

I’m hoping they reconsider and give it a quieter sound but what does it mean for other manufacturers with similar cars?

Seems quite a few vehicles are getting the axe this year or next - partly due to regulations, sales and/or impact of COVID :(

Though I feel with the GT-R they've been slowly moving away from what made that line of cars special - Skyline through to the GT-R R35.

Nissan have also axed the Navara in the UK :(

But what will muppets with tiny members drive?

You’ll just have to get a Mitsubishi L200

Only the Isuzu D-Max and Toyota Hilux aren't being discontinued in the UK - VW Amarok is moving to a Ford Ranger rebadge, L200 is being discontinued, Navara discontinued, talk that the Ford Ranger including the rebadges will be discontinued come 2023, some rumours of a "common platform for Europe" VW/Ford, possibly some other brands using it as well, replacing the VW/Ford pickups from project Cyclone or they might just pull out the UK market completely after 2022.

EDIT: Just Googling it apparently Audi are eyeing up the pickup market and might take over from the VW offerings :s also there are 1-2 lesser known brands.

Let's be honest, for the most part pickup trucks are totally useless. Seems to be a status thing at the moment with the ford ranger especially.

I think the reason we see so many is they're a good tax swindle, they're a commercial vehicle so are very good if you run your own business and they're more pleasant than driving a van around as you can actually fit the family in them. I don't think a lot of people would have them as their first choice unless they were incentivised by tax.

I dunno about being better than a kombi van, I've driven a few of the pickups and they all feel and drive dreadful and there is literally no space for rear passengers. Then the load area is totally useless for anything other than bales of hay

While i do pretty much agree, i'd rather have a small van than a pickup personally but most people don't want to drive around all the time in vans for whatever reason and pickups are seen to be far more 'car like' so most people given the option will get a pickup rather than a van. Plus if you've got kids a van isn't really going to work as evne if you get a crew van type with seats in the back it's not exactly like a car back there where as a pickup will have things like cup holders and interior trim :p

Surely they could just adjust the exhaust slightly to overcome this? Slap in a valve or something?

It's been around for 13+ years. It's had a good run. The R34, in comparison, lasted about 3½ years and the R33 not much longer.

A game changing car that kicked other manufacturers in the backside and then some. When it came out it made a serious leap in what road cars were capable of and started an arms race, which though incredible I am not sure added much to the enjoyment. Landmark car, deserves it's place in history as a slayer of supercars but others have now moved on and I would STILL take a 996/997 GT3 over one, let along a 991/992.

How're they useless? Mine is awesomely practical. Can hold a pair of sheep nicely!

Double cabs have reasonable rear passenger space - bigger than most cars - but then you compromise on the cargo area. The rear is usually a bench seat which isn't amazing but the one in mine is probably about as good as the average seats in a car so...

They are in a bit of an odd place generally especially in the UK - if you need a workhorse there is little reason to buy anything other than the Hilux, maybe the Ranger if towing a lot. Only a small number of models really tick the box as a lifestyle vehicle and the only one which is close to OK ride wise on the road for passenger comfort really is the Amarok.

I bought one because at the time I needed a compromise - something which can do a little of everything without being too penalised in any one area and frankly the ride comfort is more 90s range rover but the handling is actually OK and the V6 engines tend to help offset some of the less desirable aspects - I would not want to be doing a lot of road miles in the ~2L 4 pots :|

My situation has changed now and I'll be looking for something different but I can't bring myself to get rid of my Navara so it'll be going to the back of the garage so to speak and used for the rougher jobs.

TBH I think a lot of people would change their tune, somewhat, if they spent a bit of time living with one of the better models.

Somewhat back on topic though I find Nissan a bit tone deaf of late - discontinued the Pulsar which overall isn't a bad vehicle and with a bit more conviction could have been a good seller, took the Pathfinder in an odd direction away from what made it attractive to its original audience into a kind of no man's land where there are way better options if you want a luxury larger SUV and better options if you wanted an off-roader (though they seem to have abandoned bringing it to the UK now). The Ariya seems an odd vehicle, too expensive for the market it kind of sits in, while not premium enough to take on the next segment up and design wise very hit and miss - especially the back needs some serious reworking.

We need to get rid of all these noisy V6 motors so we can get silent electric ones on the roads... which we then say are too quiet so manufacturers have to then add the fake UFO sounds so people don't get run over.

13 years is an age for a car model to last, it’s done well. Had you bought one new back in 2009 for 50k, you’d find it was worth almost the same now, despite you putting several thousand miles on it. You could only wish for that sort of situation :D

If I could only get one that sounds like a tie fighter
