Morning All,

Mrs is looking at swapping the fiat 500 for something a little bigger. We have a little one on the way and need something a little bigger to hold the buggy and everything else that goes with it!

The 500 boot is filled just with the frame of a buggy, leaving an option of putting a seat in the back down or just really be stuck for space!

The Mrs has seen a Juke she likes, it is a 1.6 DiG-T Tekna...quite suprised to see 190bhp after looking into these a bit more! The one she has seen has 19k on the clock, 11 reg and is up for £11,495.

Has anyone got any day to day experience with these? How is the luggage compartment?

This is going to be the second car as we have the A4 as main car, but I feel we do need a slightly bigger car for her.

Any other recomendations? She likes something a bit different so Fiesta, Polo etc is out the question. Budget is £12k ish.

Cheers!

Had a passenger ride in the back of one recently, I found it was ok once I was in but the rear door opening was quite narrow and set back relative to the seat which made getting in and out a bit awkward so you might find it a bit lacking in elbow room if you're trying to lean in to faff with a child seat

We have a maxicosi iso fix seat base, literally click in and out so this shouldn't be so much of a problem. We got this because of the 500...we then tried out a buggy in the boot of the 500 and we had no where for anything else to go once the frame was in!

It is a woman thing I think!!

Certainly. My Mrs thinks they are great.
I don't see the attraction. All of the disadvantages of a 4x4 (poor aerodynamics, not great to drive on the road) with none of the advantages (good off-road, large load space).

Even the Qashqai's boot is small, I am not sure how a Juke would cope.

Apart from the ride height I find them no better than a Focus.

Have you thought about a 500 XL, Golf Plus (as ugly as they are!)

I don't get why people buy them.

What are they actually for? They're small cars that are bulky and look horrific, seems to be a very pointless car.

Almost 1 in 3 cars you see on the road are Dukes round the North East thanks to Nissan and their workers friends and family scheme which means every employee and 4 nominated friends get £4k off the price of a Duke so that makes them only £12k for the top model? It basically means people can buy one, drive it for a year and get their money back

Completely agree. They do nothing a standard 5 door saloon can't, in fact from the sounds of this thread a standard 5-door may even have bigger capacity and better access.

I remember looking at a Juke's boot and wondering how the hell anyone gets anything in there, for the size of the car the boot is so small I was more impressed at how small they had managed to make it for the cars size

Also with Juke's I don't mind them I would appreciate them more if there wasn't so many of them and I think they are a bit girly, also I cant help but think the term trying to be different just like everybody else comes to mind, my girlfriend really wanted a white one so I invented the "Spot the white Juke" game, there's millions of them

Owned a Nissan Juke Acenta Premium, DIG-T for a year.

Space is an issue, it's got narrow opening rear doors and the boot, whilst sufficient, doesn't give rise to the notion "decent". It's basically on par with small hatchbacks.

I travelled 13,000 miles with it and the engine is a bit of a peach. There's some turbo lag but nothing that will bother you.

Handling isn't as bad (IMHO) as others have noted. There's body roll (but just look at it!), but then again, this won't bother you for 99% of driving. And the other 1% make it fun! :P

They are really fun cars, when I had mine, they were a real head turner and people would be staring at you everywhere you went. Nowadays they're common as muck.

Averaged 35mpg from trip computer and brim to brim tests over ownership.

While they look big and chunky, they are little more than a Micra on stilts.

You will not see any real increase in space from a 500.

The A4 will be used at weekends and shopping trips, we just need something a bit bigger than the 500 when I am working in the week.

I would prefer something a bit more like a focus size, but a Micra/Fiesta is still a step up from the 500, I believe around 30% more space now I have been looking into it?

A friend has one of these and their not actually that bit inside (especially not in the back anyway) he has two lads in their mid teens and they are fast outgrowing the room in the back...

Afterdoing some more research it seems this car is useless!

We are looking at buying iCandy Peach buggy, and the cot part does not fold down so will more than likely be too big for the car!

Looing into this a bit further, looks like an Audi A1 has a larger capacity boot! May have a look at these.

I wouldn't bother, the girlfriend has a 3door and it's the same problem as your 500, the frame buggy goes in with taking the wheels off, everything else goes on the back seat or we fold a seat down, unless of course the 5 door has a bigger boot?
