The time has come for the 'super shed' aka my £150 to meet Mr Grinder and for its faithful 2.0 Zetec lump to be sold on  (£150 for 2 - possibly longer years motoring cant be bad?)

Anyway, the girl next to me at work has just bought a brand spanking new car, so I got offered her M reg 1.6 Primera (MOT till Mar and Tax till Sep) for the pricely sum of £150....what I didnt know is that a) its been well looked after and b) it has a genuine 56k on the clock :D

So..........anyone know what model of engine these babies have in them? Whilst I dont want to even think about modding it, would like to get a bit of background on the ickle beastie (and to find out if these are cam belt or chain)

This is also the reason I didnt make the meet today :( needs must im afraid...one day I WILL bring the toy and break the rollers!!

IIRC they have a SR16DE engine, chain driven 1.6 16v engine.
Very reliable although not too quick in the primera.

Have the same engine in my sunny sr.

As moss says, it's chain driven and stupidly reliable. Got a good bit of poke too, although id prefer the 2ltr gti engine anyday :D

Brilliant - I can now rag it around without fear of the belt snapping :D

As for it being fast, im getting old, I just need something boring, reliable, can seat 4/5 and is OK on petrol (50 mile round commute).......argh im turning into my dad...nooooooo

I had one once, its a bit sluggish, but once wound up its sound. Its a 16v twin cam unit, 1996 model also came with efi.Its a GA16DE engine which produces around 100bhp.They can take some serious amounts of abuse, ie it takes about 80k's worth abuse for the timing chain guide to wear and snap the chain (by abuse i mean no oil or filter changes and reasonably hard driving )
