Hi All

Bit of advice if I may, dug out a couple of laptops and both seem to not detect the battery - possibly after updating, which is **** I was doiing on one.

One is running windows 10, is an Asus, had a problem with battery, so got a new one, but still saying no battery detected
Other is an old windows 7, was fine, was just doing some updates so I could use it for basic stuff, then suddenly this one now says now battery detected.

I feel jinxed - both show red lights on the front, but I am sure the batteries are good, and this is some windows issue - I have updated everything I can, deleted battery drivers and re-installed - which then does then show a fully charged battery, but if I unplug it dies. When I uninstall the microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery driver, on re-install it then shows a battery charged at 255%

Any ideas?

Are you able to see any battery stats in the BIOS?

What about resetting the CMOS? Do you have a multimeter to test the charger and/or battery with?

I would start troubleshooting with the above given the red light being displayed rather than at OS level.

Bios are fairly locked down and not showing any battery status, I'll see if there is a way to get into the advanced bit of the BIOS.

Checked the chargers, both working ok, batteries are showing almost full volts. I'll have another go this evening and see whats what? Thanks for the help

I would make sure the hardware is doing what it’s supposed to first just before looking at what Windows is reporting :) strange both machines at the same time mind you.

my boy has had to take the Asus laptop to his Mums and use it on power supply only so now only have the windows 7 samsung - cant seem to access the bios on this one. Something wierd is going on here, we have had a few micro power cuts and another battery has failed on my kit, this time a surface Pro - seems a bit wierd that they are going at the same time (although I havent had them out in a while so could just be coincidence!)
