just finished building my new rig and having a few probs.
when i first turned it on i got no beeps. The fans came on, my graphics card light came on but nothing else. Not even a display.
i have the 20 pin and the 4 pin connected to the board in the one place for the (usually) 24 pin connector.
i then took out the ram and still got no beeps.
there are two four pin connectors from my psu so i plugged one of those into the 12v near the cpu and got loads of beeps and random starting/re-starting so took it out sharpish
specs 6600c2d, ds3, corsair xms2 6400, x1900xt, tagan 580w
Any help appreciated guys
Regards
Jobe

so that'll leave 4 pins not connected on the 24 pin connector header yes?
Also the shape of the 4 pin connector is not the same as the socket.

Yup, i think going from my Enermax PSU, the manual says that its for dual processor systems. You don't need the other 4 pin :) just the one that fits.

but thats the problem.
if i fit the other one it beeps and goes on beeping with continual restarting

That's rubbish. There will be two four pin connections- one will have a small notch on which joins up to the 20 pin connector to make a 24 pin one, the other will have a catch on and have two black and two yellow wires- this one goes into the single 4 pin socket near the CPU. It is possible however that you have damaged your motherboard by plugging in these connectors the wrong way around.

i actually have three four pin connectors.
one black one with the small notches to slide together with the 20 pin (also black).
then i have 2 four pin ones which are both blue (which have 2 black and 2 yellow wires). two of the pins in diagonal are slightly rounded so they can't go on the wrong way. the one that matches has p4 on it, the one that doesn't has +p4 on it.

it's a tagan. just rang ocuk tech supp and after moving my ram about i got the beautiful one beep. adding graph card and will try to boot in a mo. i've got workers round who want a cuppa.

ok all loading now (windows)
thanks to all who gave help.
going to start a new thresd about sata drives in a bit.
thanks again
