No boot and then boot almost every time

Hi all,

Does anybody know of an issue that could cause no boot (just stays on Toshiba logo forever) followed by boot on the second try pretty much every time on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L870 (Windows 8).

Has it always happened? If you so try updating the BIOS and if there is an option turn the full screen logo off to see if you get any clues as to what's going on. Failing that I'd test the RAM.
