So I’ve just started getting the No boot device please insert boot device” error. I’ve done the usual steps (yesterday the disk was healthy in Samsung magician).

- used diskpart, can’t do a fixboot as I get access denied. Done the steps do format the EFI partition but still get aces a denied.
- Disk is online and shoes as healthy in diskpart
- windows repair wouldn’t work
- just had the cmos battery out, still no joy
- going to try a format now

is this ever a case of just a dead drive? I’ll see how a format goes.

Have you tried doing it outside of Windows ? the drive could be in a frozen / locked state, if I remember right the Samsung Magician software comes with a secure erase utility that goes onto a USB stick then you just boot from that instead.

I offlined the drive and brought it back...no dice. Formatting seems to have worked for now. We will see.

Well, slightly concerned it’s underlying issue - seems ok at the moment

Had this once with a Crucial SSD on a Gigabyte AM3 motherboard with an FX8350.

Built, installed Windows, was fine for a while.
One day no boot device, ended up reinstalling Windows, was fine for a while again.
Did this several times. Turned out that drive just didn't like that board. I updated the firmware, didn't help.
Swapped the SSD with another machine, never happened again. SSD still working now.
