Just put together a brand new X79A-GD45 Plus with 4930k tonight and ... a big fat nothing so far! Never had it this bad before :(

Its on my desk, open with a PSU (Be Quiet pure power 530), graphics card (AMD 6870) and 1 stick of 2GB corsair XMS 3 ram in DIMM1 ... power phase lights come on on pressing the power button, GPU fan spins, PSU fan spins but nothing after that, no beeps, no monitor action. Tried no ram, different RAM (up to 4x4GB, up to 4x2GB) in various slot combos, no GPU, different PSUs (OCZ 600, Corsair HX-1000), different GPUs (GTX 460, HD7970) ... still nothing! Ram, GPUs and PSUs come from other PCs I have available that work fine ... (the kids wont be happy I have gutted theirs to try to get this working :) )

Tried cmos clear, both cold boot jumpers (just in case!) ... so I figure maybe the BIOS needs updating and the spec blurb said it can be done via usb ....

So, I get the latest MSI BIOS which is an exe and which wants to run on a USB stick and WON'T run on any of my other PCs as that aint on an MSI board, of course it wont matter anyway as there's no sign of it booting in the first place ... it's going back unless there's a trick to getting this one going with some help from here maybe .....

Ta.

As you've said theres a good chance it needs the BIOS flashing to support the 4930K. Can you ask the place you got it from to flash it for you?

bought from here so a mail in Jobbie. Displaying BIOS version or some relevant date on the description might help mitigate such things if BIOS related, specially as they only have IB-E S2011 procs for sale!!!! - never had this issue before and will watch out in the future.

No POST so no chance unfortunately. I don't know if its broke or the BIOS needs updating tbh. I have access to loads of PCs but no one with S2011 to maybe borrow a chip from to flash with ....

i would ask on the msi forums maybe they will be able to tell u if the bios is an old version

Did that and looks like bios! Received this .......

Your board is manufactured January 2013 so the newest bios it can be at is 17.0. It takes bios 17.4 to even boot with a 4930K. Conclusion: Yes, bios definitely needs updating for using yourt 4930k.

Its going back under DSR with the chip ... ocuk can sell the board b grade to someone else who buys it with a s2011 proc from their stock!

Contacted OcUK to be told that they do not offer a Bios update service and to contact a local shop, who will or course charge me for the privilege. Partly my fault of course, lesson learnt.

Saw this on a competitors site, need a board .... at least these guys get it!!

Important Note: Buy with confidence; all new X79 Intel chipset motherboards purchased from **** are BIOS ready for Intel's new IvyBridge E processors.

Post in the CS section im sure 5UB will sort you out. As an alternative you can get the BIOS chip off ebay to replace the one you have.

Both 5ub and Bailey are very very helpful, they have both helped me out a lot in the past I hope you get it all sorted and can enjoy your new board
