I’ve got two main driver policies, one which has my no claims discount and one which doesn’t given I understand this can only apply to one policy.

What happens if I claim on the policy with no NCD? Does this impact the NCD on my other one? I can’t find an answer.

This is a hypothetical question but I’m curious.

well my understanding is if you have a accident especially if it results in a claim you have to notify both .i.e claim on the policy with no claims but have to notify the other insurance (the one with no claims) that you made a claim.
we had to for so many years after ours when filling in insurance forms.
we had 2 cars in our houshold , one in my name and one in the wifes , wife had bump because we always put ourselves on each others policy as spouses she always had to declare a previous bump.

As mentioned above.

You have to mention it on any policy. But it will only affect the NCD on the policy that it is claimed on.

You have to declare any claims made in the last 5 years for any named driver on any policy I've found so even if you claim on the policy with no NCB you still have to declare the claim on the other but you wouldn't lose NCB on that policy (it may put the price up but 'technically' you wouldn't lose NCB accrued)

You can only use the NCD on one car, but any claims apply to both :/

What I've always wondered, is can you have two separate instances of NCB? If you have 5 years no claims to start with, and you have two cars, A, and B and use the NCB on car A, but you can't then use it on car B, after 1 year when you get your renewal, it'll automatically come with 1 year NCB on because it gained that in the year, are you allowed to make use of that, or do you have to tell that renewal that you can't use it?

Yes you can have 2 or more separate NCB trails.
At renewal you can use whichever NCB you like as long as it's not currently being used.

All part of the insurance con.

So you think if I change cars I shouldn't have to let insurers know about previous claims? Because thats what you are suggesting if claims must be tied to the vehicle.

No you must inform your insurer about any claims, whether they occured under your current NCD history or not.
A claim suggest increased risk for that driver, regardless of which vehicle/policy/NCD occured on

Well that's what they tell you. I've always had 2+ cars since I was in my 20s, and started building up double NCB through two different insurers. I now have more NCB than I have been driving. I even added some to one of the other policies so they both have the same amount of years.

At one point, I had more NCB than years I had been driving, but because after 9 years of NCB, it doesn't make any difference to your insurance cost, that's why I added them to the other policy.

You are conflating the discount you accrue for not having any claims, and declaring that you've had any claims. You don't lose all of the no claims when you make a claim against your policy, normally a couple.

Interesting I've had two replies which haven't read the post I'm replying to. I asked someone a question. I haven't made any assertion or statement for you to contradict or tell me I'm wrong.

You have to declare the claim on both polices but the ncd would only be impacted if it’s on the policy you claim on

I also noticed that. Thought to myself they clearly haven't understood what you were saying.
