No connectivity over VPN on mobile data network

I use a PPTP VPN connection (from Private Internet Access) to connect to the US while I'm on my phone (Three network). It connects successfully, but I don't have any data connection, or if I do it literally lasts seconds and goes away. I've tried changing the DNS settings for the VPN, but this has made no difference.

I'm sure this used to work before. Any ideas?

Hmm works fine over IPsec. I suppose that's good enough for me.

PPTP is broken from a security point-of-view anyway. IPSec is the better option.
