No Credit Card

Hi Guys, sure I can't be the first here to have this problem...

I'm trying to order something online (do they want my money or not

), however the retailer only accepts payment by Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, Masestro, Amex) and Paypal. I only have a Visa Debit Card. They also accept Paypal (I don't have an account, have always used my parents) but following the link to PayPal for a one-time transaction also requires a Credit Card.

Am I right in thinking that the only way round this is to setup a PayPal account linked directly to my bank (current) account and then login to this PayPal account?
I'd rather not give PayPal my bank account details, but if needs must!

Before everyone asks, I'm 19 on a Gap Year and thus don't have a Credit Card yet, but after working for my Gap Year I intend to apply for one ready for going to Uni.

Can you not just buy it elsewhere to save the hassle, or is it something specific that only that place sells? Failing that, can you not borrow someones credit card (parents?) and just give them the money?

Maestro isn't a credit card for a start, it works the same way as your visa debit card. have you tried processing using your card?

Have you tried using your debit card? Sometimes websites can be confusing and what they actually mean is they accept both.

Yep was gonna say the same thing...i have a VISA card from HSBC but it isnt a credit card more of a debit card...ive used it plenty of times when buying stuff from America without any hassle.

your visa will work

steam (the game thing) used to always say credit card back in the day but always worked with debit cards of the same or similar branding. eg when i selected mastercard i could use my maestro and when selecting visa credit i could use my visa debit. must be an american thing lost in translation somewhere

I thought you could use a VISA debit card anywhere, so whats the problem?

Isn't the difference between debit and credit where you can go over the amount you have in the bank with credit and not spend more than you have with debit?

I was going to post and suggest using your VISA debit card as it will work fine, but it seems that particular bit of advice has already been given...

Visa debit and Visa work in the same way on web transactions - I have a Visa debit card and bought stuff from dozens and dozens of websites without any hassle.

Nope, I haven't tried it yet....

Other websites I've used always have a Visa AND a Visa Debit logo, and this one only has the Visa logo.... but I'll go give it a try....

I think you're just looking into it too much - i'm pretty certain that it will work fine. I have never seen a website limit to just Visa credit cards and ignore debit cards.

It'll work, the yanks do know what Visa Debit is, they take it everywhere as a credit card

Lots of sites say credit card only, never had a visa debit card refused. Even when shopping online in America or Europe.

I've used a Via Electron debit card on many sites that say that and it works fine, nothing to worry about.

I have shopped on sites with just my debit card that said that. The web-store would be shooting themselves in the foot just accepting credit cards they would cut off a huge customer base.
