hi all, my sis just got a samsung 40' tv and asked me to connect her acser net book to it, the pc input on the t.v is a vga as is the one on the net book so i got a cable and plugged it in. i added a secondary monitor in the display settings (windows xp ) and fired it up. i treid variouse res settings but all i got was the blue desktop background and no icons or task bar, i checked it was the windows background by changing the theme colour. when i cold start the net book i get all the boot screens and the windows logo and load bar on the tv, it goes off ( blue ) when the user account is activated. if i start the net book in safe mode it all displays on the tv with no probs !!!??

Did you try moving the cursor 'off' the screen to the left or right (depending on how you set it up)?
Not sure how Windows XP handles wallpapers on multimonitor setups but it does sound like you used the 'extended' setting rather than a clone which means you should be able to move the cursor from one to the other screen. A taskbar is never shown on extended monitors, unless some additional 3rd party software is employed.
