I admit I'm new to Win 7 (never used Vista) so I'm all very confused right now (I love XP

Why when I change the power settings on my laptop does this also affect the desktop, whenever I change it from "Saver" to "High Performance" mod or vice versa (as an example), the desktop background goes white (replaces any image I have as the bg) and the taskbar slides out of view!
WtF? I'm sure this is some simple desktop setting but as I said, I'm new to Win 7 and its giving me some damn annoying headaches right.
