I'm pulling my hair out with this one as it's supposed to be an xmas present for my brother.

Basically whenever I turn the pc on, it turns on for a second, fans spin up and so on, then turns off again and then it turns on again as normal. Sometimes it turns on and off twice though.

Also there's no output from the graphics card and I've tried it with my 24" dell and a 15" hp monitor I used to use aswell.

So far I've tried:

1 stick of ram,
1 stick of ram but in different slots.
Reseating the gfx card
reseating the processor
going around all the power connections and connections to the motherboard (fans, usb etc) and making sure they're all connected.
Taking out CMOS battery and leaving for half an hour.

It just refuses to POST as well as there are no beeps when I turn it on at all. What's weird though is that the HDD light stays on for about ten seconds when I push the power button and then doesn't come on again after that.

I've done a search on here about similar problems but most of the results came back with that geil pc6400 is rated at 2.1v whereas the motherboard defaults to 1.8v. is this likely to be the problem? I've tried each stick individually but I don't have any other ram to test it with as I use exactly the same kit in my pc so I just get the same results with my ram.

Computer spec is:

intel pentium 2140 (using stock cooler, no overclock as of yet).
Asus p5b premium
2gb geil pc6400
gigabyte 460watt powersupply
bfg 8800gts 320mb oc
500gb western digital sata hdd (can't remember which model).

I should also tell you that the RAM isn't faulty as I'm currently using it now in my computer and also the motherboard should be ok as it was my big brothers and he was using it fine up until last week with a q6600.

I'm going to bed now but I'll check the thread as soon as I get up tomorrow and hopefully one of you lovely christmassy people will have a solution for me! :D

(please?)

Cheers guys and merry christmas GH!
