Strange one, when i turn on my Lenovo ideapad i get the boot logo on the laptop screen, but as soon as it boots windows it goes black.. i have managed to get the picture to show on an external monitor, but nothing on the laptop screen..

I have tried duplicating the screen, but still nothing on the laptop.. what could be wrong?

Yes, I'm able to get in using safe mode.. then what? Do i look for something, or just reboot and hope for the best?

when I uninstall the driver and it goes back to "microsoft display"something it works on the laptop display, but the external screen doesnt work.. within a minute it re-installs the AMD Radeon driver automatically and the laptop screen goes black again - but external monitor start working..

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Lenovo. hmm

I can get rid of the Radeon driver by rolling back the driver.. this seems to revert back to the "microsoft basic display adapter" - and it stays there.. so atleast I can use the laptop with its display.. installing the AMD Radeon driver (both from Lenovo (for this laptop) and AMD) seems to result in the same problem. With the Radeon driver on boot up the power led will flash red 3 times, then (only) the external monitor will come on..

Its a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (14), AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Integrated GPU (Radeon RX Vega 6, I believe).

Problem sorted.. I got hold of a recent driver for another (through very similar model) and it worked fine - finally got 2 monitors again. :)
