Hello folks,
CPU-Z:
I could use some help! I'm no expert but I understand the basics.
My system is a 1st gen i7 920 @2.67 which came pre-installed with 6gb of the following: http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCZ-OCZ3G1600LV6GK-PC3-12800-Triple-Channel/dp/B001IT4BWA
I'm running Windows 10 64bit
I've just bought 2 packs of the following for a total of 12gb: Corsair Memory XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600 Mhz CAS 9 Dual Channel Desktop
CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 - 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3, PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.65V
The intention being to get rid of the old 3x2gb ocz sticks and use the new 6x2gb corsair sticks. I'm pretty sure the new stuff is compatible...
After carefully removing the existing RAM and installing the new RAM, on startup there is power but the display does not come on and there are no POST beeps. It remains like that until I do a hard reset.
In order to try and solve this I did remove the CMOS battery for 1 minute. This made no difference.
Could this be because I need to prep the BIOS first for the new RAM timings?
A second issue I'm now facing. After reinstalling the old memory modules to get the system up and running again, I've now noticed that device manager states: "Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB (2.00 GB usable)"
Any ideas why only 2.00 gb are usable? Could it be something to do with me unplugging the CMOS battery thus resetting the default BIOS settings?
Edit: piccy:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
