I'm rebuilding a pc with old parts. I bought a athlon 2400+ on the bay and I had everything else already. So I connected everything up with just the graphics card, cpu , fan and a 512mb ram and it boots fine (fan is spinning, motherboard light on etc..) but I just get a blank screen.

So I swapped out the 2400+ with another 1ghz athlon but get the same problem. I know the 1ghz athlon works because I have another socket A motherboard(obviously not compatible with the 2400+) and it works fine on that older motherboard using the same psu (235 watts).

Usually I would associate this problem with the ram not seated properly but I've tried reseating and swapping the graphics card and putting the ram in all the memory slots, with the same problem. I'm running out of ideas.

What could be the problem?

It might be a motherboard fault, as you tried a different CPU and gpu.

Have you tried a CMOS reset, just in case.
