Hi all, upgrading an old socket 754 system, I have purchased an X1650 Pro 512 AGP.
When booting from on-board graphics, all is fine, but when the new card is fitted and connected the pc turns on, but the screen shows no text just a pattern of coulours all over the screen. The screen goes blank then comes up all colours again, i guess as the pc goes from post to xp.

Is the card faulty or incompatible?

HP Imedia 1309
AMD Seperon 3100+
Gigabyte GA-K8VM800MNF (AGP)
512MB DDR 400
80GB Hard Drive

I know it's out of date, but they just wanted to spend £50 to play sims lol, so I thought good agp card and some ram.

Advice/opinions?

Does seem like a faulty card, is it possible to take a picture and post here just to get an Idea.
Have you disabled the onboard GPU in the BIOS before plugging the monitor into the new GPU.

Hi, thanks, I am suspecting a faulty card, I have also tried an old MX440 and that worked fine. I am going to try the card in another agp set-up and will report back.
I will try to get a picture sorted, but the screen is completely full of random colour, small pixels, not blocks or anomolies on usual display.

Is there such a thing as an incompatible card? I thought that as long as it wa AGP it should work?
The motherboard is rev 1.0 and according to Gigabyte's s site, it is agp x8.

I did try bios settings but there was no setting to turn off, but I was able to reduce the onboard graphics allocation to 0mb, but that still didn't work, i had to reset CMOS to std to get display back from on-board graphics. I didn't find a display order either to tell it to use AGP first, but when I did have the MX440 fitted I didn't adjust any bios settign and it seemed to work.
