Hey, I've recently started building a new PC, and after putting everything in and wiring it up, I turn it on and there is no signal to the monitor. Also after 20 seconds or so of being on, the computer cuts out and restarts itself. I've double checked all the wiring and the only thing that seems loose is the 24-pin connector which I'm worried about forcing in all the way for fear of breaking the motherboard. Is this connection the problem or is there something else?

Do you definitely think it's the connector that's causing the problem then? All the parts are brand new so I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with them being faulty.

Make sure all the cables are connected properly.. i.e. the 24-pin should have a tab/hook thing to ensure it doesn't come loose.

Also post your specs if this doesn't help.

I would`nt say for definite, but you need to make certain that it is connected properly. You`ll know when it is, because you wont be able to pull it out if the clip has latched on. So, push it in all the way and then try starting your PC again.

It's usually just solder pads under the socket, so if it's near the edge you can grab the board and squeeze them together. I nearly baulked my GFX with a bad connection so if you aren't sure it's home you can consider it a poor connection. If you can pull it straight out without depressing the tab (my final test on every tabbed connector now) then it's not home.
