Hi folks, please help me before I have a nervous breakdown! Ill try and give as much detail as I can, so apologies in advance for the lengthy post...

Couple of days before xmas, pc working fine, no hardware or software issues, couple of hours of Warzone, then shut it down for the night...next day tried to boot up but getting no display error on monitor. Pc seemed to be coming to life, all fans and lights kicking in, but no signal.

Checked all cables, connections , etc - nothing. tried different cables, display port, hdmi and different monitors - nothing.

PC specs -
Asus GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
GX-352-AS

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM

Asus Maximus VII Ranger Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
MB-611-AS

Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two (V3) Ultimate Gaming Case (with USB3.0 Support) - Black
CA-110-AN

Antec EDGE 650w 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular Power Supply
CA-231-AN

Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2A2400C11R)
MY-382-CS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was all purchased from OC about 6 years ago, so I figured its getting to that time where things are gonna start to fail, probably my gfx card has finally given up on me....not the best time to get a new gfx card, but hey ho....

tried a different gfx card - nothing

power supply maybe? took that to my local pc shop - tested and they said its all ok

took the whole pc to the shop, they tested everything but the cpu and mobo - couldnt find the problem, so they were pretty confident it was the motherboard had died on me :(

So bit the bullet and ordered new motherboard, cpu and ram from OC , new specs -

Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (Wi-Fi) (AMD AM4) B550 ATX Motherboard
MB-6FC-AS

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Eight Core 4.4GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
CP-3B7-AM

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3600 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4 Memory Dual Kit
MY-4BW-CS

Kept the same gfx card for now, money too tight and gfx cards to thin on the ground.....still the same problem!!

Still getting no signal at all, tried directly from motherboard to bypass graphics card - nothing.

also tried disconnected the ssd's, but made no difference either way

Im now a big chunk of change down, and the thing is gonna cause me to have a breakdown if I don't figure it out soon, any suggestions please???

So they didn't test the psu and gpu in your pc at the shop? First thing they should have done is checked with reseating the ram, and trying an new power supply in your system. I've had a faulty psu that started fans up but didn't give enough power for the gpu.
If you can do, try a new psu and see if the system boots with that.

I took the psu up on its own initially as I thought that was the issue, that was the first thing they tested, Ive also tried another psu in there, and made no difference. I tried a different gpu and had same problem, also tried connecting direct to mobo(the new one) and same issue. The only thing that hasn't been changed now is the case :( I'm absolutely stumped

You won't get any output from the motherboard as the cpu doesn't have integrated gpu. Does the motherboard show any error codes/ led's?

you sure your screen is working or the cable is working. try that or another display port on GPU better plug in HDMI and DP ports and see where that get you.

No errors or beeps, I've tried 2 different monitors, using display port and different hdmi cables which work fine when I connect my laptop to the monitor. Just doesn't make sense

You haven't said what hard drive you are using (are you sure it actually is), have you tried to just do a build outside of the case with the bare minimum of components and have you got a dvd to try out a linux live disc?

Clear your cmos and do a reboot.
Would I need to do that seeing as Ive already replaced the motherboard?

Ive got 2 ssd's , I did try booting without them connected to see if I got any sort of error, but was no difference. I do have a dvd drive somewhere, ot connected atm though.

One thing Ive noticed is the mouse/keyboard and pad I have connected dont light up at all, where Im sure they would light up at some point of the boot sequence previously...

just in case.

if nothing lights up on both motherboards and fans dont spin up, then problem is at the PSU. you tried 2 PSUs and if you are sure both of your PSUs working then something is wrong with your wall socket.

check your fuse box or change wall socket.

The motherboard does light up and all the fans kick in - case fans and cpu fan. I tried my brothers psu which works fine in his and had the same issue

When I try to boot the pc looks like it is doing everything it should, theres just no display on the monitor at all

It won't hurt to take the battery out, it will load all the defaults. Build outside of the case to make sure that you don't have a problem with a short, make sure all power cables are attached to the board, 1 stick of ram(try in every slot), gpu, cpu, keyboard and mouse.

its been completely stripped, rebuilt with new mobo, cpu and ram, cables and connections checked and rechecked, different psu tried, different gpu tried....only think that hasn't been swapped out is the case, so will try and build outside of the case later and report back, how to I start it when its out of the case?

You briefly touch the power pins (the pins you would attach the case power button to)on the motherboard with a screw driver. Lay it on a non conductive surface obviously.

Before starting it outside the case, I checked all the connections again and reseated the ram - success! Im pretty sure it was the ram, cos it was still only showing 8gb, so reseated again, then had the 16gb showing. The whole thing threw me because the symptom was the same as the initial fault which Im assuming was a dead mobo. Thanks for your help folks!

Now to see if the upgrades have improved my game in warzone.....probably not though

Worst feeling in the world when you build a new PC ( which this almost is ) and it doesn't even turn on :/
there are much worse feeling than that!

smoke & spark coming out PSU
water leaking out of water loop dripping onto motherboard and GPU
display showing artifacts
electric burning smell

lol, if things dont turn on 99% is something wrong with installation as opposed to hardware problem.
