hi,just built my 1st pc,when i power up i get a message saying "no hard disk detected" i have triple checked the wiring and everything is good, the last time i checked i pressed del to go into the bios,on the screen was listed *sata 1-6* in a columb and i could see my hard drive on there along with my dvd drive as i know they are plugged into sata 3 and 6 and they are the only 2 showing fitted hardware, yet it still says no hard disk detected whenever i boot up,any ideas i could try? much appreciated :)

well i checked like 15mins ago and got the "no hdd detected" msg so turned her off and on and went to the bios without fiddling, thats when i saw it,so i just turned off the pc and posted here :)

talk to me like your teaching a 2yr old,all i know is what ive read over the last week, just wanted a decent pc for what cash i had,so decided to build my own.

I would personally make sure all physical connections are correct. Even if the cable 'looks' secure, I would still give it a good push in to make doubly sure (has happened to me before).

If you're a complete noob, the worst thing you can do is rush it all. If you know what mobo you have and if it comes with instructions, you should take the time to read it at least twice.

The first time, it will seem a little daunting but the second time (and even more times after that) it will seem a lot less alien. This is how i learnt the little bit of knowledge i know

no i haven't tried a cd yet,it was basicaly the pc's first power on from a fresh all new ground build up,my friend just recommended i run my win7 and it should show up,worth a try?

Physically remove and then put the cables in regardless of whether they look ok. Even I don't push them in all the way sometimes :) Also when installing a completely new hard drive I've had to go into the disk management tool on my desktop and activate the hard drive, not sure how you go about doing that in the BIOS though?

ok make sure you dont have it plugged into the sata 6gb/s port and change the boot sequence so it boots from the optical drive first, pop windiws cd in and you should be good to go. hopefully anyway......
