I'm making this post for a friend who's having some bad luck!

He was using a 6950 which has had some trouble in the past. After he RMA'd the card, he found that the HDMI output wasn't working, so he just used VGA like a caveman not wanting to part with the card for another few weeks!

A few months later he got a second monitor- HDMI. He tries to connect it but with no luck. Resigned to the fact that his card won't output HDMI, he upgrades to a 270x, but unfortunately, he still has the same problem- no HDMI output.

I've been trying to help him and have tried all the usual things. One point is that it won't even display the BIOS screen, so I don't think it's a driver issue, but we reinstalled the drivers to be sure. I'm not sure what to suggest to him anymore and I thought you would be able to help!

I would look more to the monitor, either the hdmi cable as above or check whether it is auto switching to HDMI when the PC is switched on. Check in the manual for the button on the monitor that will switch between hdmi and vga and see if that makes a difference. Not sure how portable the pc is but another test if you have a LED/LCD tv is to hook up the pc to that via hdmi and see if it displays.
