I've been offered a permanent contract (currently freelance) and a car allowance of £7k.
I'm firmly in the 40% tax bracket before said allowance and I have absolutely no idea what I'd get!..
Currently I'm driving an old high line Passat estate which is reasonable, but I don't feel comfortable in keeping it whilst claiming a car allowance. Especially if I'm late for work if the old girl breaks down!
Ideally I'd like to purchase a good two year old vehicle, but even £30k doesn't go far towards anything interesting or refined these days! Estate cars like Superb wagons are hens teeth in a decent spec.
BMW are lol money, inflation adjusted I would have been able to get a nice 530D at the very least 10 years ago. I'm stuck with a focus 1.0 Ecoboost then, or am I not looking hard enough?
Edit to add: I'll be doing quite a bit more site to site travel if I take the contract, so I'll likely need something better than I currently have.
