no imac update

Historically the September event is for iPods and iPhones and not for other Mac product updates.

Isn't that because historically the new iMacs are already out by then though? no 2012 iMac most likely means that the 2013 ones will probably wait for Haswell as that's really the only thing they can't put in them right now, unless their working on a 27" retina display lol.

Actually, I bought my current iMac in May 2009 and in October 09 they refreshed it.

Hoping the same this time!

Some of us have been rocking backwards and forwards in anticipation for new iMacs and minis since the start of summer :(

Probably another month or so before something happens, which gives me saving time but still leaves me frustrated.

I'm not that hardcore of a Mac follower to know all the ins and outs, best look at somewhere like Mac Rumours for that. What I stated though is how it has been for years now.

There's enough reports/'sightings' (unit ID type things) of the 13" Retina MBP to be pretty certain it's out soon, IMO. I do wonder if they feel it's worth a proper 'unveiling' as such or the store will simply go down and return with it on there for sale.

I was rocking backwards and forwards too, waiting for the refresh.

Then I had a proper think and decided I should just get a PC instead. End of an era in a way, but the prices Apple are charging for SSDs is just outrageous :( Should still get a fair bit back though from my mid-2008 iMac, just gonna put it on eBay. Also a sensible decision for me cos of applications I need to run for uni. Been with Mac since 2004 but nothing lasts forever...

That said, I'm still interested to see what they come up with!

You can install the SSD yourself but it requires lifting the glass and LCD and would invalidate the warranty.

Yeah, I did look into self-installing an SSD, as I just assumed I'd get another iMac, but then realised that I should just switch because in the long run it makes sense for my situation.

Additionally I could have got a 3 year Apple warranty for free through the Education store, so it would have taken some guts to endanger/invalidate that...
