My laptop shows good signal strength and appears to be connected. But has no internet access. It is 8ish years old. I am building a pc so not too concerned if the laptop is just destined for the bin. But any ideas that might fix it would be great.

If you've got TCP-IP connectivity, but nothing from browsers etc. check the date/time is set.
A relative has a laptop with a dodgy bios battery, and because all Google searches are now https by default, it gives the appearance of being not connected.

Checked the usual stuff? Such as DNS settings, IP address etc?

Also, check the wireless switch has not been switched off by mistake (most laptops have them).

Total beginner here so I'll have a look into dns and ip. But the wireless switch is definitely on. When I switch it off the symbol in the corner indicates disconnected. And when I turn it back on it's shows bars of signal but a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

Will check the time and date and confirm that. The laptop is with the cousin in law. He said he would take a look at the internet and usbs. I should mention the USB ports don't register any input either.

Seems like the laptop is fixed. Not sure what I did, I was just poking around inside it, just to be nosey. Put it all back together and internet works and a ton of updates to do from many months of being in the stone ages.
Now onto phase two, and that's why the hell my USB drives don't work.
