No Internet after installing Asus EAH6850

Hi,
I installed my new graphics card today from OC, but lost my internet connection.

I had a GTX 8800, I uninstalled the drivers from control panel( I think there were 4 nvidia ones). I installed the new card but when I booted up, the network icon said no connection and had red cross on it.

I am using the network port on my gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 and Windows 7.

Using troubleshoot it says Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter, if you have a network adapter you will need to re-install the driver.

Windows network diag says Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter

Device manager doesnt show anything listed under network adapters, unless I select show hidden devices. It then shows several wan miniport entries, Teredo Tunneling interface and RAS Async Adapter.

I have tried looking on gigabyte's site under my board for drivers but none exist for windows 7, I tried installing the vista version.

I have installed the marvel 88E8056 driver from marvel's site.

Both drivers installed correctly but havn't made any difference.

I am not sure if i uninstalled the wrong thing when I removed the nvidia drivers initially or my new install has caused a problem with my network drivers.

The only thing I can think of left to do is either :

Use system restore(not sure if I should remove my new card before trying this)

Reinstall Windows

Buy a new network card.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful.

Thanks

Tried a scan for hardware changes in device manager to see if it detects it at all? When you installed the Marvell driver, did it now appear in the network adaptors list?

Scanning for new hardware didn't change anything.

The vista driver installs a marvell miniport driver but nothing shows up in device manager.

The windows 7 driver isn't an exe, but an inf, cat and sys set of files. As the network card doesnt show up in device manager at all I cannot see a way to install the driver.

Edit, right clicking the inf doesnt work, it says the inf file you selected does not support this method of installation.

Also, lan is enabled in bios

You may have a completely different problem, but this might be worth a look ...

I have twice seen on a Gigabyte motherboard the LAN adapter be completely unfunctional after a soft reboot.

I would try shutting down, powering off completely i.e. at the wall for 1 min then boot it up. This fixed the problem both times I have seen it - no amount of messing in Windows made it come good !

Good luck :)

Go to your mobo's site and download the vista 64bit drivers for it (32bit if thats what you're using). See if that installs anything.. Might be worth checking Windows update too, see if that detects it and gives you an update.

I saw smart lan enabled in the bios and presumed that was the lan option, but looking through the manual it turns out I should have an option for onboard h/w lan in the bios. This option is missing so it looks like port is buggered. Maybe I did something when I installed the card? Weird.

Ive tried the above suggestions but still no joy.

reset the bios and load the defaults?

This ^^ Mainboards dropping NICs is a common thing I come across on almost a weekly basis. The majority of the time a simple BIOS reset sorts it out. Have you tried removing the power and whipping the CMOS battery out for 30 seconds?
