No internet with cable..?

A few weeks ago my ethernet cable was burnt (fell infront of a gas fire) and it seems to be around that time, even though i have tried various cables, i have stopped being able to get the internet working via an ethernet cable.

I don't know if it is a coincidence or if the damaged cable has possible damaged my mobo, i hope not Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

I take it you have only one lan port, if not try it in the other one, have you rebooted the router or can you borrow a pci-lan card or buy one there dirt cheap.

Yeah only the one port and i have rebooted the router. Could you recommend a good cheap-ish one?
