No Joy With 2500k

Hi mate,

I would really like to Overclock my 2500k and have followed some really good
guides from what other members on the forum have put up but the problem is
that my system always seems to crash when I run Prime95, only running that
because that is what everyone seems to run after an overclock.

My system is in the specs below if you could list some stuff for me to change
to get a 4.5Ghz stable overclock I would really appreciate this bud.

Also I have a H100 Cooler as well that is not listed in my sig specs.

Is Prime95 the best thing to test the stability of an Overclock Wazza?

Im only using it because everyone else does but if there is a better way feel free
to let me know mate.

I have a specific question for you mate if you dont mind.

I have looked at the link that is above and it looks great my only question
at the minute is I don't want an overclock of 4.8ghz i would like 4.5Ghz so
what voltage do i need to put in for this kind of overclock as I cant see it on
this guide?

Ok guys so using the link above i seem to have got some joy out of an overclock but
I have a question.

So I set my volt to 1.320 and it seems to be fine but the problem I have it I have ran Prime95
and it didnt crash or anything but CPU-Z also reported that the speed stayed at 3.3000
on my CPU even though it states the multiplier is x45.

Any idea why, I though Prime95 would send the speed of the processor right up to be
honest. Screenshot below.

Ok for some reason I accidently turned off speed step and the other one whoops.

Funny thing is I have turned them back on now and my CPU-Z shows me as a speed to
change some im gonna do another prime95 and leave it for 10 minutes and check see what
happens I will report back to you mate.

On last stress test it was showing Core Voltage at about 1.322V just fluctuated around that
area?

So latest news report lol.

Did 1 pass on Prime95 got to 2nd test and it froze and I got a blue screen.
So considering that I am using the guide above I would assume that I need to use more
voltage on the processor. I had it set at 1.320V so what is my safe level to go upto m8?

Also just so you know once I activated the speed step again as soon as I ran prime my
speed shot up to 4.5ghz and stayed there and my vaultage on CPU-Z was reported
between 1.302 - 1.320ish temps never went about 53

EDIT: I have just noticed that on the guide above it says the following:

1. For K series parts, the stock voltage supplied will allow for consistent overclocking generally up to a multiplier of 43x.
There is potential for the multi to be raised to 44x depending on the load induced.
This default voltage range be approx 1.240 to 1.260 under load.
2. Increased range between 44 to 47x multipliers will generally require a voltage range between 1.30 to 1.375V with an LLC recommended setting of high to ultra high.

So if I put my voltage to 1.375 and my LLC to ultra high I might get a stable OC? Right ?

Ok so after a bit of messing about and tweaking some more volts and stuff I was able to
get 11 tests on Prime95 without and crash.

I was monitoring the Volts on CPU-Z and the most they went upto was 1.355V
then dropped back down again. I have put a SS up of them both after the test
so you can look at temps and stuff and let me know what you think if you dont mind
mate.



P.S. Those temps are with my H100 on the Quiet mode I will happily put it on the next
mode up though if you think those temps are a little on the high side.

that's ok but you need to use offset to allow cpu voltages to drop below 1v at idle,and full 1.355v at load

idk how high you went with cpu offset before but keep going till it shows around 1.35v under load (when your stress testing)

cpu voltage wont drop down if you set a fixed amount

I set a fixed amount like it said to do in the guide that is linked on this post
mate.

Is it a problem having the volts like that all the time?
If so I think I will just remove the OC because I don't have the time to sit
and mess about with the offset to be honest with you till at least the weekend.

it'll be fine like that,i just prefer using offset myself as it helps with idle temps and less power

all you have to do with offset is set an amount that equals to 1.35v when your stressing the cpu

but only add small amounts because llc will add a chunk of voltage ontop

could try +0.040v and high llc then see what it says when stressing ect if to high use less offset or add more if needed ect till you hit the 1.35v mark in stress testing

Ok then mate no problem, I will leave it as it is for tonight then as you say
it will be fine like that and I will just use the PC like I usually do and keep
HW Monitor open to monitor my temps, I have turned the fans up on my H100
so that they are going to be going a bit faster so will help with cooling
and then if I get home from work early enough tomorrow will sort the offset
out.

Ok I just couldn't wait I got the Overclock bug now, It was cheesing me off not doing it lol.

So I got my LLC on High now instead of "Really High" lol and I have my offset at +0.30
CPU-z was reporting of voltages upto 1.359 at its highest while prime95 was running at
lowest of about 1.344.

Now the system is Idle CPU-Z is reporting voltage of 0.992v upto about 1.024v.
HwMonitor reported temps of Core1 59 Core2 61 Core3 63 Core4 59 thats the highest
while running prime, I am assuming those temps are fine for there highest point as I am
assuming that since Prime95 tears the crap out of your system I shouldn't really see
those temps while playing things like TitanFall/Rust but maybe on BF4.

How does that all look Wazza?

No I havn't tried with a lower offset, I got to +0.030 and it work so left it there do you
think I should try to lower it to +0.025 and see if it still stays stable which will also give me
slightly lower temps as well.

Im at +0.020 stress test on Prime and still stable at temps are:

Core1 57
Core2 59
Core3 61
Core4 57

Voltage in CPU-Z is 1.352v and stable.

That means I gotta try +0.015 now lol.

UPDATE: Now @ +0.015 Offset and still stable and temps dropped rapidly to
mid 50's on full stress test. Volts on CPU-Z @ 1.344v highest.
Gonna leave at this now happy with temps and very very happy with speed and
stability of it. I can see why 8Pack likes doing this I wanna crack open the LN2 now lol.

Just see how it is over a few days use,you might be able to lower it further

Its addictive isn't it?

Just don't get too greedy and go too high as cpus can be killed as i found out....but that was benching at 5.5Ghz a few years back.

happy with the 4.7Ghz @ 1.38v i have now with replacement cpu

Postmanfw, Yeh its very addictive. Nah I won't go mad, Im happy with my
4.5Ghz on Turbo as and when I need it, been in BF4 and had a mess about in
there and my temps didn't go above 55-56 and now im idling at about 27-28
so thats good enough for me. "For Now" lol.

Well we have a new report, Whilst I was just playing on Rust not really a hugely
taxing game even though it makes my fans rev up lol, my PC froze so assuming its the OC
since its never froze before I have just put my Offset back to +0.025 and im just going to
use my PC as normal because Prime95 is a bit unrealistic really since you never usually run
your system like that.

Lets see what happens now.

0x0000124 usually means more cpu v,or vccio

It didn't BSOD on me mate it just crashed everything locked up.
I have upped the Offset again and touch wood its been fine since and
my voltage on CPU-Z has been fine so will see what happens over
the next couple of days.

Ok so this is not so much of a problem as a general WTF.

So I have noticed that some of the time not all the time when i book up now I have
an OC that I will turn the PC on it will start to boot shutdown and then boot up properly.

whats all that about people ?

As per the guide I have left it set to "Auto" as the guide recommends that what you do.

I have been looking up on it and a lot of people on google say they have this with Asus
motherboards.

Well i was just away peeling potatoes for Tea tonight and came back to a
Whea_uncorrectable_error
I had this before when i didn't have enough Offset so I have had to up it again.

Gonna see if that fixes the re-boot thing as well since it doesn't happen all the time just
every now and then maybe 1 in 5 times I boot

Try 1.1 VCCIO and also increase Vcore a couple of clicks on offset. Another option is to raise LLC as pointed out already.

Hi m8,

I raised my offset again upto +0.30 before seeing this post ran Prime95 for
an hour and a half and it passed all tests that where thrown at it and the
temps and voltage on CPU-Z where good.
Then went to play Dead Island with a couple of mates then after 2 hours the PC
locked up error logs show the code as 0x00000124 I have a feeling OC'ing with
16Gb RAM just makes things a pain in the ****, should i still just up the LLC
to extreme and see if that helps or should i up the VCCIO to 1.1 as well?
