No laughing smilie?

We really don't. It's one of the things that makes this forum distinctive is the simplicity of the smilies - you've got a limited choice and arguably if you need to use smilies then maybe you're not conveying your point well enough with the text anyway. ;)

no cool face either...

Maybe but you're on a text based forum - consider it a good opportunity to improve your written communication skills...

I'd be worried that it would encourage more people not to bother thinking about any content in their posts, I believe there is such a thing as too simple or playing to the lowest common denominator. An additional smiley probably isn't the harbinger of doom but you never know.

Tell me how you would portray a laughing smiley in written words.

basically it's "lol" and all over variants of it.

I don't see why we shouldn't have a laughing smiley.

"An opportunity to improve your written communication skills", for **** sake it's a forum not an essay. People who care too much about grammar on the internet are the most annoying people.
