We really don't. It's one of the things that makes this forum distinctive is the simplicity of the smilies - you've got a limited choice and arguably if you need to use smilies then maybe you're not conveying your point well enough with the text anyway.

Maybe but you're on a text based forum - consider it a good opportunity to improve your written communication skills...

I'd be worried that it would encourage more people not to bother thinking about any content in their posts, I believe there is such a thing as too simple or playing to the lowest common denominator. An additional smiley probably isn't the harbinger of doom but you never know.

basically it's "lol" and all over variants of it.

I don't see why we shouldn't have a laughing smiley.

"An opportunity to improve your written communication skills", for **** sake it's a forum not an essay. People who care too much about grammar on the internet are the most annoying people.
