No media - external SSD issue

Hello, I am seeking help on an issue that's really doing my head in!
I just bought a 2TB m.2 SSD P3 Plus from Crucial.
The item is now in an external caddy and connected to the pc via a short USB C to A connector cable.
The issue is the fact that I cannot get disk management to format and then use it as it says 'No Media'!
As I plug the item in and out Windows (10) beeps, so it recognises it.
I went into the Bios, that also sees the drive.
I just cannot see why this new storage device is not becoming available in Windows!
I have NO raid drivers or setting in Bios related to raid, is this something I need to do?
ALL other USB drives that I connect to the desktop are recognised and working, even though they are spinning drives/an old fashion type, they DO work.
*** This P3 Plus SSD is brand new, never used, yet!
ANY suggestions/comments to get this annoying issue working, really would be great.

Thanks, Nick.

I have 3 m.2's connected to the motherboard, all working fine.
I have figured out how to update the caddy's chips and now on the latest version now but still no joy.
Digging further since posting this plea for help, it seems that the controller circuit board inside the caddy may not be working right, failing to talk to the m.2 correctly.
May just bin or send the item back and pay for a better, working one! ;-(

Not sure if that idea is true, I have formated my external 4TB spinning hard drives without issue.
Anyway, have sent the iffy caddy back and buying a better one, at twice the price but it's got good reviews.
Will format the 2TB m.2 inside my system, if needed.
