As title. Where i say no minimum. ideall no more than £2500 :p

Im undecided about sli/crossfire.

So it would be nice to see peoples different specs :)

what would it be used for?

gaming i take it?

are you keeping any existing items? monitor?

what about o/s? and office? are those to be included?

Without waiting for conroe ( which giving the budget probably isn't bad advice ) I came up with the following, which will last a good time regardless of conroe :). Put in everything, the OP can tweak slightly as needed.

id say wait a couple of months get a conroe extreme edition and x1900 crossfire thats what ill be doing :D
No,no,no,no

Just get the regular Conroe, you wont really see much performance increase from the extreme edition once youve clocked it.

The extreme edition will shine with extreme cooling but probably wont really clock that much on air.

you could go REALLY extreme just for the sake of it, and get 3 x 19" monitors, for surround gaming.

And maybe 2x 4G iRam drives in Raid for the fastest map loading, EVER!

Tyan K8WE (Soon to be K9)
2 x Opteron 285
32GB DDR400
nVidia Quad SLI 2 x 7900GX2 overlocked
Creative X-Fi Pro sound processor
Ageia PhysX physics processor
SCSI 15K Raid 0
Raptor 150GB
Blu-Ray Multi Drives
Tagan 1.1KW PSU
Processors and GPU Fully liquid cooled
PhysX card will also be liquid cooled

and an Iiyama AQU5611D BK

To me it seems like the best chip will be the E6600 at 2.40GHz with 4MB and a FSB of 1066MHz. Clock that bad boy up to XE range just like we overclockers reccomend the 4400+ instead of the 4800+ becasue overclocking can make up the difference and save a boat load full of money that can be recycled into other parts (graphics cards for most, more CPUs for me ;)).
