no monitor signal?

ive got a pc with a vga port on the back, on board. I plug the monitor into it and it cant find a signal. I've got another pc exactly the same but with an external gfx card, when plugged into that the monitor works. How come the on board vga port doesnt recognise a monitor?

Because the board is faulty?

Try resetting the BIOS.
If you can get another gfx card to fit to it, in case the board is dead and won't POST, even to external gfx card.

Sounds like this issue should be in motherboards, not monitors.
