Yeah the game has some very serious flaws on all kinds of levels, despite loads of promise. My copy is collecting dust until (if) they do a major overhaul.
Gothic, like most jowood games, was almost unplayable out of the box. Normally they fix the major bugs after a couple of months, which is when I will play it.
I bought it and I have now sold it as the game was just to buggy to continue with. The combat balancing is all wrong and later on in the game it just becomes too easy. Even the most powerful setups are experiencing stuttering and there is also a major memory leak which forces the game to crash while saving or loading.
There are also loads of quest bugs such as you can kill a character and then you are unable to finish the main quest - you may only find this out later on after investing many hours. They released patches but these issues have still not been resolved. The game has potential and the world is the best I have seen in any game.
I have been bitterly disappointed as Gothic 2 was probably my favourite game of all time. I may pick up another copy in six months or so when they release the game in the US and hopefully all these issues have been resolved.
I kinda like it when it's not stuttering as it loads in data on the fly. The game is great to play and very diverse in it's quests and locations but is in need of a big loving patch of optimization and bug squashing. One to play seriously in a few months time me thinks.
