No option but to upgrade my ancient system

Hi folks!

So it's come to a time where my USB ports are dying, i'm getting some weird stuttering on PCI-E devices, firewire died long ago.. so it looks like my mobo is giving up the ghost. It's an old system, and I can't find anywhere to get a replacement (other than eBay, where they are few and far between, and could be as used as mine is).

I'm currently running:

Asus P5Q P45 Skt 775 Motherboard
Intel Q6600 (OC'd to 3.2Ghz)
4GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GT730 (bought recently as my 8800 GTS died)

I don't want to spend a lot (what's "a lot" ?!). My gaming only consists of TF2 or DOTA 2, nothing strenuous. I do basic photoshop tasks, some remuxing of video and playback of said video. More importantly.. I would like fully functioning USB/firewire/PCI-E connections :D

I'm keeping my eye on the members market for some second hand bundles but i'm still fairly blind to what's good, and will be good for another 5 years, and what's not. Suggestions appreciated! Thanks all.

anything from the last couple generations is good
min 8gb memory & a ssd
a 2nd hand 3570K would be pretty sweet but not sure if many ppl will be selling them cheap

I should mention, I do have an SSD as boot drive which has been great. I got lost on Intel's generations when they kept releasing iterations of i3/i5/i8 with different names attached. Am i right in thinking any of the 'i' chips past 2010 will be an improvement on a q6600? And that whatever iteration of intel chipset I get, will depend on what motherboard, as they are different SKTs through the generations?
