Im having a problem, basically PC comes on all fans spinning but no output to display.

Have tried:

GPU in different PCi slot

Different power cable to GPU from PSU

Changing RAM into different slots

Symptoms are,

reset and Power buttons have no effect when PC is turned on, they do nothing at all yet Power button will turn PC on making me suspect a faulty motherboard.

Reset and standby button on the actual motherboard do nothing when PC is on either.

Motherboard is a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7.

Thanks for any help

Hi, thanks for the response, there are no onboard graphics but what I did find is that there was no secondary power supply to the CPU from the PSU, so I plugged this in and now no response at all, the lights come on, on the mobo but nothing else happens.

If i unplug that again and start it up, all fans will spin and lights up etc so I cannot work out why plugging both of the plugs in will react even less response from the PC.

Different GPU being tried tonight but anyone any ideas in the meantime?

from your psu to the motherboard you should have your 24pin connecting ofc then at the top of your board you will have either a 8 or 4 pin connector, make sure that is plugged in correctly, if it is an 8 pin you need and your psu only has a 4 pin connector, you may need a converter to turn it into an eight pin so that the board is getting supplied with enough juice...

also you may want to try swapping power units, could be that

Yeh that was the plug that wasnt in, but it is now and is definately in properly, it has the 8 pin plug.

PSU does seem to be working fine but I haven't got a spare to test, plus this isn't my PC, was just trying to help a mate out

Just a Cheap Atrix 800w, it was one of my inclinations with it not being a great PSU, but the problem is it seems to be doing what it should (well, bar the PC not starting :p)

Your signature states you have 480 in SLI. Did this all run ok or just stopped running? Does just 1 card (try both) work ok or not? Do you have another PSU to try? Try with just 1 stick of Ram.

try one of each minimum set up to reduce demand remove all usb stuff except what u need
i drive etc etc

reset bios with jumper or battery go into default and try booting from those basic settings
