No output to monitor

Hi guys, I got my new graphics card yesterday, so I plugged it in, attached my monitor to the little adapter that came with it and plugged it into the back.

I power on, and the monitor receives no output, I can hear the computer booting up, all components whirring and the HDD loading Windows, but no output to the monitor whatsoever.

So I plugged it back into my integrated graphics slot, this worked fine, so I disabled the Integrated display adapter in Windows. Tried again, still no luck.

So then I decided to check what the primary display device is in BIOS, which turned out to be PCIe rather than the Onboard chip, so that sounds right.

The fan on the card spins, so it is receiving some power, but I was wondering since I have only got a 250W PSU, with a pathetic 13A on the 12v rail, could it be falling short of the mark?

If so, luckily I have a friend who is willing to give me his old 400W PSU and wire it in for free (since I don't trust myself and he is more experienced than I am)

Just wanted to check before I get into action.

Hi Matthew, thanks for your reply.

I have tried this before and I just tried it again, but no luck with that.

I'm pretty certain it's my PSU, I just want some reassurance. I will probably take the card to my mate's to see if it works on his computer just in case its a fault with the card.

Fair enough, just thought I'd suggest it as you didn't mentioned if you tried it or not. (I take it you have any external power source plugged into the gfx card and motherboard?)

Best option, just try the 400w psu or go round your friends as mentioned :) Good luck.

Matthew

No, it's not plugged into anything but the PCIe bus. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 8600GT feature an optional power supply? (only needs it for SLI as far as I am aware), I didn't receive any power cable for it in the box so I figured I don't need one.

It's just sat here in my case with it's fan spinning, is there any way I can see what the system says is plugged into the PCIe slot?
